Firefly is Whedon the next big TV show that is a huge success. The actress must have made a lasting impression, because this one episode led to her becoming an acclaimed actress. Her character, River Tam, was one of the most complex characters that Glau handled with ease. Tam, as the character from the film was named, was the subject of research conducted by the government to make her the ideal assassin. Tam's emotional control was taken away as a direct result. Glau was able to showcase not just her acting abilities but also her skills as a combat ace on Firefly. Glau had the ability to make the most of her athletic skills because she had been trained as an assassin. Summer Glau was classically-trained as dancer. Her dancing prowess also includes training in flamenco and tango however it was her broken toe that ended her dancing career. Firefly did not last for more than just one season, however it gained a huge audience. Whedon was so enthralled by the show that he decided to return to the show just a couple of years afterward. In the meantime though, Summer Glau continued to receive some prestigious work. Her television work included Cold Case and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
